A gift for someone who’s walked the Coast to Coast
Someone you know has walked the Coast to Coast. That’s 188 miles across northern England, from the Irish Sea at St Bees to the North Sea at Robin Hood’s Bay. Alfred Wainwright’s route crosses three national parks on the way: the Lake District, where the fells come early and hard, then the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors, before it drops down to the sea.
Plenty of people pick up a pebble at St Bees and carry it all the way to the other side. If they did, it’s probably still on a shelf somewhere at home.
So what do you give someone at the end of that?
What makes a good Coast to Coast gift
It’s a walk with a clear start and a clear finish: one sea, then the other. A good gift keeps hold of that line across the country, the date they reached Robin Hood’s Bay, and whoever walked it with them.
A print of the route they walked
Our Coast to Coast print shows the whole route from St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay, drawn over an Ordnance Survey map with the climbs underneath. The line is the official National Trail route from Natural England, so you don’t need a GPX file or any details from them to order it.

You add:
- their name, or more than one if they walked it together
- the date they finished, or whichever date means most
- their time, if they’d like it on there
- one photo from the walk, or three
You see the finished print before you pay, so you can check every detail first.

If they went their own way
Wainwright himself encouraged people to find their own variations, and most walkers take a few detours. If they recorded the walk, they can upload their own GPX file and the print is drawn from the line they actually walked. Our GPX help page shows how to export it from Strava, Garmin Connect, Komoot or OS Maps.
If they walked it in stages
Not everyone does it in one go. The print shows the full route, so it works however long it took. Use the date they reached Robin Hood’s Bay, or whichever date they talk about most.
If you don’t know the details
Don’t know their finish date, or want them to choose the style? Give them a gift card instead. You choose the amount and the day it arrives by email, and they make the print themselves.
A few other ideas
- Another walk across the north. The Hadrian’s Wall Path crosses England too, 86 miles from Wallsend on the Tyne to Bowness-on-Solway.
- Back to the North York Moors. If the last few days were their favourite, the Cleveland Way goes round the edge of the moors and down the coast through Whitby and Scarborough to Filey.
- The big one. For anyone ready for something longer, the Pennine Way runs 270 miles from Edale to Kirk Yetholm, and crosses the Coast to Coast in the Dales on the way.
Questions people ask
Do I need their GPX file to buy a Coast to Coast print?
No. The route is already drawn from St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay. You only need their name and the date.
We took a few detours. Can the print show our actual route?
Yes. Upload the GPX and we’ll draw your own line instead of ours.
Can I add photos from the walk?
Yes. Add one photo for £5 or three for £10.
Do you deliver outside the UK?
Not at the moment. We deliver to UK addresses only, and delivery is free and tracked.
