Hadrian’s Wall Path print in a black frame above a woven bench: the National Trail from Wallsend to Bowness-on-Solway, with the height profile

A gift for someone who’s walked Hadrian’s Wall Path

Someone you know has walked Hadrian’s Wall Path. That’s 86 miles across the north of England, along the line of the Roman wall from Wallsend on the Tyne to Bowness-on-Solway on the Cumbrian coast. It starts in the city, climbs through Northumberland farmland and reaches its best stretch on the crags around Steel Rigg and Housesteads, where the wall rides the ridge. The last miles run out flat across the Solway marshes.

It’s a walk with nearly two thousand years of history under your boots, and most people take about a week over it.

So what do you give someone at the end of that?

What makes a good Hadrian’s Wall gift

It’s a walk across a whole country, from one coast to the other. A good gift keeps hold of that line, the date they reached the end, and whoever walked it with them.

A print of the route they walked

Our Hadrian’s Wall Path print shows the whole route from Wallsend to Bowness-on-Solway, drawn over an Ordnance Survey map with the climbs underneath. The line is the official National Trail route from Natural England, so you don’t need a GPX file or any details from them to order it.

You add:

  • their name, or more than one if they walked it together
  • the date they finished, or whichever date means most
  • their time, if they’d like it on there
  • one photo from the walk, or three

You see the finished print before you pay, so you can check every detail first.

If they walked it west to east

Plenty of people start at Bowness-on-Solway and walk east instead. The route line is the same in either direction. If they recorded the walk, they can upload their own GPX file and the print is drawn from the line they actually walked. Our GPX help page shows how to export it from Strava, Garmin Connect, Komoot or OS Maps.

If they walked it in stages

It splits neatly into day walks, and some people do it a weekend at a time. The print shows the full route, so it works however long it took. Use the date they finished, or whichever date they talk about most.

If they cycled it

Hadrian’s Cycleway follows the line of the wall too, about 170 miles from Ravenglass to South Shields. For anyone who rode it, there’s a Hadrian’s Cycleway print, drawn from the GPX on their bike computer or app.

If you don’t know the details

Don’t know their finish date, or want them to choose the style? Give them a gift card instead. You choose the amount and the day it arrives by email, and they make the print themselves.

A few other ideas

  • Another walk across the north. The Coast to Coast crosses England further south, 188 miles from St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay through three national parks.
  • The long one. The Pennine Way runs 270 miles from Edale to Kirk Yetholm, and follows the wall for a few miles on the way.
  • The whole length of the country. If they’re thinking even bigger, we print Land’s End to John o’ Groats, from their own GPX.

Questions people ask

Do I need their GPX file to buy a Hadrian’s Wall Path print?

No. The route is already drawn from the official National Trail line. You only need their name and the date.

We walked it west to east. Does that matter?

Not for the route line, which is the same either way. If you want your own recording on the print, upload your GPX.

Can I add photos from the walk?

Yes. Add one photo for £5 or three for £10.

Do you deliver outside the UK?

Not at the moment. We deliver to UK addresses only, and delivery is free and tracked.
